Code of Practice supported Buro Happold and Accoustic Engineers Moll in the competition for the conversion of the former cloth mill in Finsterwalde.
Our proposal deliberately seperates old and new build areas. The heritage listed shed roofs are carefully renovated and host the foyer and café. The new build rises from existent structures and includes a stage, conference areas and office space. Technical and service facilities are arranged at the interface so that both parts of the building can be used individually at any time.
By placing the new build to the south of the shed halls, the area between the other buildings of the ensemble can be greened and left open. Below the site, geothermal installations can be used to heat and cool the building in a sustainable way.
